Wastewater Treatment Certification Training

Wastewater Training Certification Trailer

The Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification Training consists of  four videos On-Demand (VOD), totaling 20-hrs of training. The purpose of  this course is to prepare the attendee to pass the State of Utah  Wastewater Operator Certification Level III and/or Level IV Examination.  Each VOD has an extensive series of quizzes, math problems, and a  comprehensive final exam to assess your progress and to help you  practice the fundamental math calculations presented in the state exam.

Wastewater Math Problem 1- Pump Cost per Day

What is the cost per day to operate a pump that pumps 1.5 MGD against a  total dynamic head of 40 feet? The pump has an efficiency of 60 percent  and the motor has an efficiency of 90 percent. Assume one kilowatt-hour  of power costs 6 cents.

Wastewater Math Problem 2 - Wet Well Diameter

Water is flowing into a circular wet well at the rate of 1,120 GPM.  If the depth of the wet well is rising at a rate of 3.5 feet per hour, what is the diameter of the wet well?

Supplimental Materials

With growing public concern over the discharge of waterborne contaminants, the financial costs associated with maintaining regulatory compliance continues to rapidly increase. Moreover, for communities impacted by severe drought and other water deficiency challenges, limited drinking water supplies has increased the public’s demand that water resource recovery from wastewater become an economic reality.
Given that reliable access to high quality water is vital for human survival, it is critical that those individuals responsible for designing, operating and maintaining our wastewater treatment systems be sufficiently trained to make technically and economically-defensible decisions that effectively protect public health and the environment from current and emerging water quality pollutants.
The Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification Training workbook is the latest publication by Dr. Michael McFarland, PE, BCEE. This publication is written to specifically support the certification examination requirements of the municipal and industrial wastewater treatment operator. While the primary goal of the workbook is to prepare individuals to pass all levels of the nationally-mandated wastewater operator certification examination, the publication is broad in scope and provides wastewater treatment operators as well as other water and wastewater stakeholders with in-depth technical discussions of the physical, chemical and biological concepts that underlay the unit operations of the modern-day water resource recovery facility.
